AP for Youth & Young Adults - Redlands, CA

First Baptist Church of Redlands, CA is looking for an Associate Pastor of Youth & Young Adults.

Specific Areas of Responsibility:  

  1. Develop and supervise the church's programs and ministries for middle school and high school students.  
  2. Support with expertise, leadership, and vision the church's ministry with families of teens in our church and community.  
  3. Identify and develop opportunities to serve the hopes and needs of college students and young adults in our church and community, integrating them into the worship and service life of the church.
  4. Fulfill other responsibilities for worship, pastoral care, outreach, leadership development, and administration in consultation with the Senior Minister.  
Candidates should possess the education (preferably a M.Div.) and experience which demonstrates:  
  1. A deep concern for supporting youth and young adults in their growing faith and maturity.  
  2. Excellent communication and relational skills and the ability to build caring relationships with diverse constituencies and work constructively with staff and lay leaders.  
  3. The organizational abilities to design and lead ministries, identifying opportunities and resources and mobilizing volunteers around shared goals and mission.
  4. The theological sophistication to articulate clearly the relevance of Christ to daily life and the issues of our day, helping people understand how growing faith informs action and empowers us in service.  
  5. The desire to serve an open, mission-minded American Baptist congregation which seeks to broaden and deepen its outreach to all God's children.

Expectations:  

  1. Commit to extending the reign of God's love deeper in one's life and in the larger world God is redeeming and renewing and to grow in one's personal competencies and abilities.  
  2. Support the vision, goals, and programs defined by the Senior Minister, Executive Council, and commissions of First Baptist.  
  3. Report to the Senior Minister as one's primary supervisor and work cooperatively with the staff and lay leaders of First Baptist to insure the health and growth of the whole congregation.  
  4. Work in consultation with the Christian Education Commission in the development of policies, goals, and programs for youth, college, and young adults.
  5. Abide by the code of ethics of the ABC Ministers Council; the policies and procedures outlined in the personnel handbook of First Baptist; and the guidance and counsel offered by the church's Personnel Commission.
  6. Manage one's weekly schedule to allow sufficient time for
  • envisioning, planning, implementing, and evaluating programs and ministries,
  • the development of leadership teams,
  • the care and training of volunteers,
  • relationship building and care of individuals and families,
  • study and preparation, and
  • general staff/pastoral responsibilities.
