One of my
most exciting times of the year is the end of the year. I eagerly anticipate a new start with each New
Year and new goals with new mountains to conquer. I anticipate new relationships, how much
weight I’ll lose, how many books I’ll read, the number of date nights with my
wife Karen, what I’ll study for my devotions, how much money I’ll help churches
raise, how much I’ll invest and how many churches I’ll help GHC start.
The New
Year is also a time to look back to what I've done in 2007. As I contemplated that, I remember one of our
pastors called me to ask how GHC spent the $10,000 his church gave to GHC
missions. What a great question! I explained that in the last 4 years, we
started 51 churches which worship with over 7500 per weekend and those churches
brought over 1000 to faith in Christ.
For our existing churches, we spent $370,000 in consultations for
greater effectiveness in finances, evangelism, discipleship, worship,
leadership development and lay mobilization.
We’ve also helped churches raise over $15 million for building, debt
reduction, reserves for future vision and staff support. We also provided training events for clergy
and lay leaders for greater ministry effectiveness. We also provided leadership in pastoral
search.
I thought
that was a pretty good answer, but this pastor didn’t like it. He asked, “That’s nice that GHC did those
things, but how was my $10,000
spent? How did you use my money? I felt nervous. I thought for a moment and gave him the break
down as follows:
-
$2,449 started Renaissance
Church in Burbank, CA
- $1,408 sent missionaries to
churches and to remodel our church in Huron
- $1,891 provided a
consultation for 1 church
- $1,945 provided 1 mentor for
2 months for a group of 10 pastors
- $ 413 helped us find a pastor
for a church
- $1,896 provided
infrastructure so all of this could happen
Heart and
lives are changed because of our generous churches. Thank you to all who have supported GHC in
2007. Consider supporting 1 new church
in 2008 or providing a mentor for a group of pastors or providing a missionary
for churches or providing a pastoral search consultant for a church in
need. It is your generosity that makes
us stronger together than we are individually.
